Ellen DeGeneres Tearfully Reminds Everyone to "Celebrate Life" After Kobe Bryant's Death

Ellen DeGeneres delivered an emotional monologue during her upcoming Tuesday show, reminding viewers to "celebrate life" following the death of Kobe Bryant. The former NBA pro died in a helicopter crash on Jan. 26 with eight other people, including his 13-year-old daughter, Gianna. Like many other celebrities and fans, Ellen mourned Kobe's death and felt prompted to share a message of love shortly after.

For Ellen, Sunday started out as a day of celebrations. It was her birthday and she was nominated for a Grammy, but things darkened quickly after news of Kobe's death. "Everything changed in a second," she said. "Life is short and it's fragile. We don't know how many birthdays we have." She asked her live audience and fans at home to "tell people you love them," whether that's through a text or a hug. That's a reminder I think we could all use, today and every day. Watch Ellen's powerful message in full above.
