Once upon a time, taking a photograph was an attempt to preserve a piece of the present for the future. Maybe it’s still the same today. But with the advent of cell phones equipped with a camera rivaling the SLRs of yesteryear and the resulting deluge of photographs, it is easy to get lost in the colorful world of images. Taking a cue from the remarks of the famous American photographer Ansel Adams that “a photograph is usually looked at, seldom looked into,” we at Bright Side decided to create a list of photographs that tell the amazing story of mankind — its sufferings and triumphs, its perseverance and failures.
