Exclusive: Is Maleficent Truly Evil? Angelina Jolie, Michelle Pfeiffer, and Elle Fanning Discuss

One of the great things about Disney's Maleficent, as well as its upcoming sequel Maleficent: Mistress of Evil, is that it shows audiences a whole new side to the famed villain. In fact, after watching the films, you just might come away realizing that Maleficent isn't a villain at all - at least that's what star Angelina Jolie is hoping. In our exclusive clip, above, Jolie sits down with costars Michelle Pfeiffer and Elle Fanning to discuss the true villain of the film, and why being bad onscreen is so freeing as an actress.

"I don't think Maleficent is bad. I think she's the nicest person," Jolie jokes before dissolving into giggles. "I think [Queen Ingrith] is a more effective villain." Pfeiffer and Fanning agree, with the latter adding that Ingrith is "bad to the bone."

The sequel is set several years after the first film, continuing the story of the complex relationship between Maleficent and Princess Aurora (Fanning), and how Prince Phillip's mother, Queen Ingrith, comes into play. For Pfeiffer, taking on the role of the evil queen was a joy as an actor. "It's so compelling, living through these characters, through these women that get to be smart and bad," she says.

Watch the fun clip above, and make sure you pick up tickets to see Maleficent: Mistress of Evil in theaters on Oct. 18.
