It feels like it's been forever since JoJo first graced the music scene in 2004. Since then, the 28-year-old singer has been through a rollercoaster of trials and tribulations that she addresses in her latest single, "Joanna." The song is JoJo's first since signing a deal with Warner Records, and in it, the singer calls out all the negativity she's faced throughout her career. "You should date somebody famous / That'll probably put you on the A-list / That'll probably get you on them playlists / Stop you being so damn underrated, oh / What is goin' on, Joanna," she sings, referring to herself in the third person.
For those who have been sleeping on JoJo's career since "Leave (Get Out)" reached number one on the Billboard charts in 2004, the singer has been locked in a legal battle with her former label Blackground Records, after they withheld the release of her third studio album. JoJo was only able to release singles and EPs for nearly a decade until she filed a lawsuit in 2013 and later released her 2016 album, Mad Love. She even released re-recordings of her first two albums because Blackground Records pulled them from streaming services. But years later, JoJo is still here and she's just getting started.
"You should just hurry and drop your new sh*t / Hurry and drop your new sh*t," JoJo slips in at the end of "Joanna," smirking at the camera in the neon-bright music video. And since we all asked so nicely, that's exactly what she's doing. Watch the video above and get ready for more. JoJo's next single, "Sabotage," features rapper CHIKA and is set to drop on Oct. 25.
