Miami Swim Week may be all about familiarizing editors and buyers with swimwear collections they need to know, but 21-year-old Halima Aden was there because of her Sports Illustrated feature in the annual Swimsuit Issue. The incredibly successful model is the first to grace the pages of the magazine in a burkini and hijab, though the entire SI family was celebrated at the event in Miami. "Miami nights 🌴❤️ I had a great time with my @si_swimsuit family!!" Halima wrote under this shot of herself on Instagram.
She worked with her stylist, Katie Keim, along with assistant Hattie Doolittle, to construct this look: a gorgeous graffiti silk Off-White design, belted at the center and complete with bishop sleeves and a ruffled pussy-bow neckline. The dress alone strikes the perfect balance between sophisticated and street-style cool. I love the touch of white leggings underneath too, which only drew attention to Halima's Malone Souliers two-tone metallic mules, an unexpected shoe choice when she could've gone with plain patent pumps. Then again, these heels brought out Halima's glow and played up the shine of her satin midi.
I couldn't help but start searching for similar combinations as soon as I spotted Halima's outfit. The look is spot on for a breezy Summer date night when you want to appear modest but fashion forward at the same time. Read on for a few more angles of Halima's special moment under the palm trees, then shop some inspired pieces I found.
