In case you were worried that Marvel's The Punisher would follow the same cancellation fate as Luke Cage or Daredevil, Netflix is here to assuage your fears - at least for now. Not only do we have a premiere date for the series's second season - Friday, Jan. 18 - we also have a scintillating trailer!
The streaming service released a full trailer on Thursday, Jan. 3 after dropping a brief teaser on Tuesday, New Year's Day. The short teaser shows Frank Castle burning up the official presidential pardon he received, thanks to his agreement with Homeland Security from last season because, as the tease says, it's time to go "back to work." The trailer takes a different approach, alternating between Ben Barnes's Billy Russo and Jon Bernthal's Frank, juxtaposing Billy's mad transformation into Jigsaw and Frank's return to his deadly ways. It's obvious that whenever the two meet again, it won't be pretty.
Punisher's first season follows Frank on his gruesome crusade for vengeance, as well as the tragic backstory that prompts it. This time around, Frank's out of the city and out of personal vendettas to declare war for. Somehow, despite being on a "vacation from violence," he finds his way back into trouble to confront new and old enemies, with the addition of a new teenage sidekick, Amy (Giorgia Whigham).
Considering Netflix has already canceled three of its other Marvel series - including Iron Fist - the upcoming season gives Frank fans a little bit of hope. Still, the fate of Punisher and Jessica Jones, which was renewed for a third season back in April 2018, is very much up in the air. For now though, we eagerly await for Frank to get back to business on Jan. 18.
