The whispers over whether or not Drake has a kid have finally been confirmed by the 31-year-old rapper himself. On Friday, Drake released his fifth studio album, Scorpion, and addressed the reports that he fathered a son with a former French porn star named Sophie Brussaux and has been "financially supporting" him since his arrival on Oct. 11, 2017.
"Look at the way we live / I wasn't hiding my kid from the world, I was hiding the world from my kid," Drake raps on "Emotionless," the fourth track on the A side of his double disc LP. According to the former Degrassi: The Next Generation star, he told those who are closest to him about his child but chose not to "run to the blogs" with the announcement. The news of Drake's son came to light following Drake's tense rap feud with rapper Pusha T.
Pusha's album, Daytona, dropped on May 25, featuring lyrics taking digs at Drake's alleged ghostwriting. Later that day, Drake released his own rebuttal, admitted to receiving help from cowriters on his songs and called out Pusha (real name Terrence) for being a fraud when it comes to his prior lifestyle as a drug dealer. The dis track prompted a scathing exposé from Pusha wherein he claimed Drake has been "hiding" a son named Adonis from the public.
On Scorpion, the More Life rapper openly admits he took a DNA test before accepting his responsibility as a dad. "Yesterday morning was crazy / I had to come to terms with the fact that it's not a maybe / That sh*t is in stone, sealed and signed," he raps on the track titled "March 14." The new dad continued, "She's not my lover like Billie Jean, but the kid is mine / Sandi used to tell me all it takes is one time / Sh*t, we only met two times. Two times."
On the same song, Drake also addressed rumors that he hasn't seen his son since Christmas, rapping, "I got a empty crib in my empty crib / I only met you one time, introduced you to Saint Nick / He must've brought you like 20 gifts / Your mother saying you growing so fast that they don't really fit but, man, you know / I still had to get it for my boy tho." Still, the Toronto native seems hopeful he will be able to resolve his custody issues with Sophie sooner than later. "Sorry, I'm venting trying to cover ground / They said in two weeks you're supposed to come to town / Hopefully by the time you hear this, your mother and I will have come around instead of always cutting each other down / God willing / I got a good feeling."
