This will be called the #TrumpShutdown. There is no one who deserves the blame for the position we find ourselves in more than President Trump. pic.twitter.com/WE3SH9TpRU

"Negotiating with this White House is like negotiating with jello: it is next to impossible," New York Senator Chuck Schumer told the press on Jan. 21. Schumer is placing the blame for the government shutdown - which went into effect on Saturday night at midnight - squarely on Donald Trump, encouraging Americans to use #TrumpShutdown when discussing the stalemated funding bill on the president's favorite platform, Twitter.
But before the government came to a screeching halt, Schumer also shared one real gem with the social media world: a supercut of statements Trump made in the past about how he, personally, would stop a government shutdown. As a little sneak preview, here's the first soundbite: "Well, very simply, you have to get everybody into a room," Trump said in 2013, adding, "You have to be a leader; the president has to lead." Oh, the irony!
Watch the video in full above, and be sure to let these words sink in a bit before going back to whatever it is you were doing.
